Mystery Skype!

Today we had a chance to Mystery Skype!  Skype is a software application that allows us to video conference (see and hear the class we are working with) for FREE!  The students had no idea where the class was from that we were Skyping with.  Their goal was to cooperate as a team to try and figure out the location of the class.

There were a few rules to the Mystery Skype.  The two classes had to take turns asking closed (yes or no) questions to help them find the location of the class they were Skyping with.  Some of the questions asked included:

-Do you live in the United States?
-Are you east of the Mississippi River?
-What is your state tree?
-Do you share a border with Canada?
-Are you in the Central time zone?
-Do you have winter?
-Do you share a border with an ocean?

With the use of physical and political maps, iPads, iPods, and MacBooks, we were able to figure out that the class we were Skyping with was from Iowa ("Go Hawkeyes!").  The other class was able to guess that we were from Michigan.

Thank you to Mrs. Gueder and her 4th grade class for a very engaging lesson!  We look forward to blogging with you next week!
