Room 10 Storytellers...

This year, I volunteered to be a part of the Storyfest pilot program, "Kids Tell" (Stories By and For Kids).  I attended workshops and trainings to learn the art of storytelling from a mentor storyteller, Judy Sima. I brought this knowledge into the classroom as a part of both my reading and writing curriculum.  It was a huge HIT!  The students started with familiar folktales and fables and made them into their own works of art by adding new details and their own "twists" and "turns".

Once their stories were complete, the students set out to perfect their storytelling by practicing (over and over!) with one another and with their preschool reading buddies.  The class even performed a story, "The Pesky Mosquito", for the ENTIRE school!  You can view this performance by going to our "Room 10 Videos".

Next, four brave students (Zach Johnson, Kaitlyn Hoover, Cadence DeGroote, and Kevin Roberts) volunteered to have their storytelling performances recorded and published on the Jackson Storyfest website for the public to vote for their favorite story.

Zach, Kaitlyn, Cadence, and Kevin were featured this week on JTV to promote Storyfest and the "Kids Tell" program.
